Although every relationship encounters complications, there are times when counseling for both you and your partner can help. Relationship issues can be difficult to manage, including coping with infidelity, a sudden lack of passion or disconnection caused by outside factors. Couples counseling provides a safe environment for you and your partner to explore each other’s thoughts, opinions, and emotions. I help my clients develop more effective communication skills, allowing each individual to understand the other more fully. When we don’t feel seen or heard in our relationships, things tend to break down in ways that feel frustrating, infuriating, confusing, or a combination of all three. In the work I do with couples, I place a special emphasis on helping each person in the relationship feel seen and heard by the other.
It’s my belief that conflict is inherent in every relationship so I never work to try to eliminate arguing, disagreement, or even bad feelings. I view each as a natural consequence of living together, and living passionately with another human being. In the work I do, I help couples reframe the discord and transform the conflict into something that has the potential for growth, maturity, and personal evolution.
Becoming more aware of oneself and of their partner, I work to guide people toward more nuanced, fulfilling relationships. As a licensed professional counselor based in North Carolina, I specialize in working with couples in various stages of relationship difficulties. While some know there is room to improve and grow, others seek my help in finding ways to gracefully and consciously part ways with their partner. Many are unsure of what they want, and I work with my clients to carefully and thoughtfully come to a place of deeper understanding.
Working in the mental health community since 1996, I received my Masters Degree in Contemplative Psychology from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. Employing a mindful approach, I help couples deepen their relationship skills with better communication, more readily made solutions, and an awareness of harmful patterns. I work to help each person regain trust in themselves, their partner, and the relationship, while strengthening each individual’s personal strengths, positive traits, and capacity for growth. I work with both English and Spanish speakers, and my office is located in the Jackson Building, in downtown Asheville.
